Healing Places Counseling Center is a nonprofit counseling center dedicated to providing counseling and therapy to individuals, families, and couple relationships. This tax-exempt status means that a high percentage of services are provided to lower income people who cannot afford to pay the going market-driven fees charged in private practices, in for-profit counseling organizations, and even in government funded not-for-profit agencies. Healing Places seeks financial support from donors to finance the provision of services for this segment of society. Your financial support aids in improving the lives and functionality of clients so that they are more able to be productive members of society and make a contribution to social well-being. Because clients experience themselves in more positive and compassionate ways, they become better workers, better neighbors, and better citizens. They become more legally and fiscally responsible, and there is an increased probability that they will never need services paid for by public dollars.

Your Support in Action
Margaret is a 34 year old woman with two beautiful boys, 8 and 6 years old. Her life had been normal and stable, as she lived in the same home for 8 years and held the same job for 7 years. The boys went to scouts and were thriving in school. In the stress of ending her relationship with an alcoholic, abusive husband, her coping mechanisms failed her and she was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Similar to a stroke survivor physical rehabilitation, only time would tell to what degree her emotional and coping skills could be redeveloped. She needed to learn to live into her new life with chronic mental illness. As a result of the break down of her emotions, Margaret lost her job, and her boys, and is currently on the verge of losing her home. The powerful voice inside constantly reminds her that she is a failure and that she and her boys would be better off if she weren’t alive, so she struggles to be responsible with her medication. She attends counseling sessions 1 to 2 times a week and is in the process of redeveloping her life with an illness from which she will never have relief. Your support allows us to graciously encourage and walk beside women like Margaret as they courageously face their new lives and grieve what they have lost.
